Narendra Modi visited Japan in April 2007 as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, where he led a 40 -member delegation of bureaucrats and industry veterans. He had a goal in his mind – to install India on a world map as a center of industry, infrastructure and innovation in Gujarat and its expansion.

In a six -day visit to Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima and Cobe, Chief Minister Narendra Modi contacted veteran companies like Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Sumitomo, Marubei, Suzuki, Toshiba, Nippon Steel, Nissan Steel, Unido and Tsuneshi Shipbuilding and signed a compromise signing between JETROs and Gujarat Department of Industries and Gujarat. Did Port, logistics, infrastructure and human resource development were discussed at Japan Chambers of Commerce and Industries and Bharat-Japan Maitri Manch, in which Gujarat presented itself as a natural entry point for Japan in India’s development saga.

During the visit, Narendra Modi also met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and discussed the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). Chief Minister Modi presented Abe a CD and one hand woven tribal shawl at Gujarat’s Buddhist heritage sites, and also invited them to come to Gujarat. In return, Abe assured Modi the full support of Japan for DMIC’s Gujarat section.
