President Draupadi Murmu will fly in Rafale fighter plane from Ambala Air Force Base in Haryana on Wednesday. A statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday said, “President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu will visit Ambala, Haryana where she will fly in Rafale.

President Murmu flew in Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter plane
Former Presidents APJ Abdul Kalam and Pratibha Patil flew in Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft at Lohegaon Air Force Station near Pune on June 8, 2006 and November 25, 2009, respectively. On April 8, 2023, Murmu, Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, became the third president and second woman head of state to fly in a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft at Tezpur Air Force Station in Assam.

Manufactured by French aerospace giant Dassault Aviation, the Rafale fighter jets were formally inducted into the Indian Air Force in September 2020 at Ambala Air Force Station. On July 27, 2020, the first five Rafale aircraft from France were inducted into 17 Squadron, ‘Golden Arrows’. Rafale aircraft were used in Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 to destroy several terrorist structures in areas under Pakistan control. These attacks were followed by four days of fierce clashes, which ended with an agreement to cease military action on 10 May.
