President Draupadi Murmu donated the body to the Vishnupad temple in Gaya, Bihar to liberate the soul of his ancestors. Shambhu Lal Vitthal, executive president of Vishnupad Temple Trust, said that the President offered pindadan and water at the place of worship.
Talking to reporters, Vitthal said, the President donated body and water to the Vishnupad temple for the peace and salvation of his ancestors’ soul and salvation.
It is believed that by donating the body, the soul of the ancestors attains peace and salvation. Every year a large number of Hindu devotees come to Vishnupad Temple to perform rituals during Pitru Paksha.
Earlier, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Union Minister Jeetan Ram Manjhi and Minister of State Prem Kumar welcomed the President at Gayaji Airport. Officials said that extensive security arrangements were made for the President’s Gaya Yatra.
