A team of British Crown Prosictions Service (CPS) recently visited Delhi’s Tihar Jail and took stock of the situation of the prisoners and the security of the jail premises. According to sources, the tour took place by the Government of India in the backdrop of fugitive economic criminals such as liquor businessman Vijay Mallya, diamond merchant Nirav Modi and British -based arms advisor Sanjay Bhandari to extradite the Britain from Britain. The British courts had recently expressed concern over the status of jails in India during the hearing of extradition cases.

An official source told The Indian Express that the team with four officers, including two British High Commission officials, visited Tihar’s jail number 4, where they inspected the wards with high security and also interacted with the prisoners. According to jail sources, this inspection is being done to embodory efforts to bring back fugitives like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi. Therefore, British officials arrived here so that it can be proved in the court there that the accused who are extradited in India will get a safe and better environment in Tihar Jail. However, the jail administration did not let anyone know about this visit.

So the team reached

The British team reached the high-security ward of Tihar and also interacted with the prisoners present there. The jail officials assured him that if a high-profile accused is kept here after extradition, a special enclave can also be prepared for him, where special care will be taken for his safety and facilities. British courts dismissed several extradition petitions of India over the status of Tihar Jail. It was argued in the courts that there could be misconduct or illegal inquiries in jail with the accused to be extradited in India.
