Power supply restored in Kiev after Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy grid

Power was restored to more than 800,000 residents of Kiev on Saturday, a day after major Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid left much of the country without power.

DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, said on Saturday that the main work on restoring power supplies had been completed, but minor outages were still continuing in the Ukrainian capital due to Friday’s Russian attacks.

Russian drone and missile attacks early Friday injured at least 20 people in Kiev, damaged residential buildings and knocked out power in parts of Ukraine.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko described the attack as “one of the largest concentrated attacks” on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday that the targets of the attacks were energy infrastructure supplying electricity to Ukraine’s military.
