Bihar Police on Thursday lathi -charged the candidates who were protesting in Patna demanding the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) examination, in which several students were injured. A large number of students gathered on JP Golambar demanding to conduct STET exam.

On Thursday, there was chaos at the Dak Bungalow intersection here when the police lathi-charged the candidates seeking to conduct the secondary teacher eligibility test (STET) before the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-5). Superintendent of Police, Patna (Central), Deeksha told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “The protesters gathered near the Dak Bungalow intersection and disrupted the traffic. The protesters also tried to cross the blocks.
Despite repeated requests by security personnel, they refused to vacate the roads. Light force was used to disperse protesters. ” The protesters claimed that many people were injured in the lathicharge, which was rejected by the authorities. A protestor named Rahul Kumar said that we had just demanded that STET should be held before the Bihar Public Service Commission’s TRE-5.

According to the examination calendar, STET was to be held twice a year. However, not a single round has been held so far, due to which the candidates who have completed B.Ed are being affected. If TRE-5 is organized before STET, thousands of eligible candidates will be deprived of appearing in the examination.
The reason for the protest?
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently announced the Teacher Recruitment Examination-4 (TRE-4) and TRE-5 for teacher recruitment, assuring to implement the dominance policy. However, the candidates who have not yet passed the TET exam will be deprived of this opportunity.
In view of this, the candidates are demanding STET exam. He says that the Bihar School Examination Committee had earlier said that the TET exam will be held twice a year, but it has not happened yet.
Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had directed the Education Department to give priority to the residents in the recruitment of teacher recruitment from the upcoming Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) to be held in 2025.
