Prime Minister Narendra Modi met astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla in Delhi on Monday, who was an Axiom-4 space mission pilot for the International Space Station (ISS). During the meeting, Shukla presented the Axiaom-4 mission patch to Prime Minister Modi and shared pictures of the Earth taken from the international space station. Shukla, who had become the second Indian to fly space under the Ex-4 mission, returned to India in the early hours of Sunday and was given a grand welcome.

Addressing the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi said on Friday that India is developing its space station and he also said that Group Captain Shukla had returned from a space mission. Modi had said, “Our group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla has returned from the space station. In the coming days, he is returning to India.”
A special discussion was also held on the topic of ‘India’s first astronaut at the International Space Station’ at the International Space Station in the Lok Sabha on Monday to commemorate Shukla’s return to India. Shukla, who became the second Indian to fly space under the Ex-4 mission, and his assistant astronaut Prashant Balakrishnan Nair was welcomed by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and ISRO President V. Narayanan at the airport.

Shukla’s wife Kamna and son Khaish were also present at the airport to welcome her after about a year of training in the US for space flight, which finally lasted from 25 June to 15 July. A large crowd gathered at the Indira Gandhi International Airport waving the national tricolor at the Indira Gandhi International Airport to welcome Shukla with the sound of drums.
