The Prime Minister urged Britain’s Starmer to take action against Khalistani extremists. PM Modi said that there is no place for fundamentalism in democratic societies. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that during British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to India, the issue of Khalistani extremism was discussed in detail in his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Misri further said that Prime Minister Modi emphasized that there is no room for fundamentalism and violent extremism in democratic societies and they should not be allowed to misuse or abuse the freedoms provided by the society. There is a need to take action against them within the legal framework available to both parties.

Misri described the visit as truly a people-to-people partnership and highlighted that India and the UK are working together on many fronts for the benefit of the citizens of both the countries. He said the historic Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries will support India’s vision of a developed India and create employment opportunities for the youth. Starmer is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising 125 of Britain’s most prominent business leaders, entrepreneurs and academics – the largest ever British business delegation to visit India – and nine Vice-Chancellors of leading British universities planning collaboration in India.

Prime Minister Modi also said that these nine British universities will open their campuses in India. The British Prime Minister met Indian business leaders, visited Yash Raj Films to discuss possibilities of collaboration in film production and also attended a football-related event. In her address, Starmer asked business leaders from both countries to explain what their governments can do to remove barriers to taking advantage of the opportunities.
