Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with the country’s highest civilian honor, Order of the Most Anshin Velvitchia Mirabilis on Wednesday during his first official visit to South African country Namibia. The award was presented by Namibia President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Nadaitwaha, who appreciated Modi’s contribution to global peace, justice and socio-economic development. The President of Namibia said during the ceremony that under the power given to me by the Constitution of Namibia, I have received the honor of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor Mirabilis, who has contributed significantly to Namibia and globally in promoting socio-economic development and peace and justice.

Expressing gratitude for the honor, Prime Minister Modi said that it is a matter of great pride and honor for me to be honored with Velvitiya Mirabilis. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the President, the Namibia government and the people of Namibia. I politely accept this honor from 140 crore Indians. PM Modi further said, “This is a witness to the everlasting friendship of India and Namibia and I am feeling very proud to join it today. I dedicate this honor to Namibia and the people of India, their continuous progress and development and our unwavering friendship. A true friend is identified in difficult times. India and Namibia have been standing with their freedom struggle since their freedom struggle. It is stemmed by mutual belief.

Since taking over as Prime Minister Modi in May 2014, it is the 27th International honor awarded to him by a foreign government. Modi’s visit to Namibia is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister and only the third Prime Minister from India. He reached Namibia in the final phase of his visit to five countries. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi and President Nandi-Nadaitwaha held bilateral discussions, after which India and Namibia signed four major agreements to increase cooperation in areas such as energy and healthcare.
