Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to the BRICS summit, which will host India in 2026. Prime Minister Modi is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and met Xi Jinping on Sunday. According to a press release by the Ministry of External Affairs, Chinese President Xi Jinping thanked Prime Minister Modi for the invitation and offered China’s support for India’s BRICS chairmanship.

The ministry also said that Prime Minister Modi and Xi have emphasized that India and China are not ‘rival’, but ‘development partners’ and differences should not be changed between them. He also emphasized stable relations between India and China and said that it is essential for the development and multi -polar world of both countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that Prime Minister Modi also emphasized the importance of peace and harmony in the border areas in a meeting with Xi. It said that the two leaders were satisfied with the successful return of soldiers from East Ladakh last year.

The Ministry of External Affairs said, “He committed to the fair, proper and mutually acceptable solution of the border dispute from his overall bilateral relations and the political perspective of the long -term interests of the people of both countries. He recognized important decisions taken by both special representatives earlier this month and assured to support their efforts.”
Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping spoke on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and direct flights
The two leaders also highlighted that the restoration of direct flights and Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is important to strengthen bilateral relations between India and China. The Ministry of External Affairs said that during the meeting, Prime Minister Modi also warned that India-China relations should not be seen from the perspective of a third country.
The Ministry of External Affairs said, “The two leaders thought it necessary to expand the shared base on bilateral, regional and global issues and challenges, such as terrorism and multilateral forums, on the fair trade.” At the same time, Prime Minister Modi expressed support for the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Later, Prime Minister Modi also met CUE, a member of the Standing Committee of the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of China. The Ministry of External Affairs said, “The Prime Minister shared his approach to bilateral relations with Mr. Kai and sought their support to realize the two leaders. Mr. Cai repeated the Chinese side’s desire to expand bilateral exchange and improve the relationship.”
