A 38-year-old plumber was badly beaten up by a group of people on suspicion of theft in Jharkhand’s Simdega district, leading to his death during treatment in Ranchi. A police officer gave this information on Thursday.
Police have detained three people in this regard. Kolebira police station in-charge Harsh Kumar Sah told PTI that the wife of deceased Sikandar Prasad has filed a complaint against 9-10 unidentified people, alleging that they attacked her husband on November 19, seriously injuring him.
He died during treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi on Tuesday. The deceased’s wife, Munni Devi, said in her complaint that her husband was a plumber and worked with the water works department in Kolebira, the police officer said.
She claimed that her husband was called to Adega Panchayat on November 19 to fit the water pump motor. While returning to work after lunch, he was stopped by 9-10 people who beat him up, accusing him of stealing water pump parts.
After receiving the information, the police took the injured man to the community health center of Kolebira and later brought him to the police station. The officer said that he was released the next morning after the chief’s intervention.
The complainant said that after Prasad’s condition deteriorated, he was taken to Simdega Sadar Hospital. Sah said that on November 24, doctors informed the family that his chest and shoulder bones were broken and he had suffered serious internal injuries.
Prasad was referred to RIMS the same day for better treatment. He died in a Ranchi hospital on the evening of November 25, he said. “We have detained three people so far and are investigating the matter,” he said. Other people involved in the attack will also be caught soon.
