Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Tuesday highlighted the government’s efforts to increase agricultural productivity and promote various agricultural practices including fruits, flowers, vegetables, dairy, fisheries and animal husbandry. Speaking during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Chauhan said that we increased production, reduced costs, ensured better prices, compensate for losses and promoted various agriculture. Not just a crop cultivation, but the cultivation of fruits, flowers, vegetables, dairy, agriculture, fisheries and animal husbandry. We have tried many different things.

The minister gave a description of a significant increase in agricultural production in the last decade, citing specific data of various crops and milk production. He said that in the last ten years, there has been a significant increase in the production of crops. The production of full food grains in 2013-14 was 240.42 million tonnes. It has increased to 353.96 million tonnes. The production of pulses was 16.38 million tonnes. It has increased to 25.24 million tonnes. The production of oilseeds was 27.51 million tonnes. It has increased to 42.61 million tonnes … milk production was 137.7 million tonnes. It has increased to 249.30 million tonnes.
Chauhan also mentioned major financial assistance schemes for farmers, including an increased amount for PM-Kisan Yojana, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), an increase in the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme and the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Also, he emphasized on urea and subsidy on DAP to increase farmers’ income. He said that under PM-Kisan, 10 crore farmers got the benefit of subsidy of Rs 2 lakh crore. He said that we are doubling the income of farmers. For this, MSPs are also increasing, are also purchasing records and farmers are also providing cheaper loans on credit cards.
Shivraj said that during the Congress rule, the amount of KCC increased from Rs 7 lakh crore to Rs 25 lakh crore during the BJP rule. The Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme paid claims worth Rs 1.43 lakh crore in lieu of premium of Rs 35,000 crore. The MSP now includes 50 percent profit on production costs, which the Congress rejected during its rule. Urea and DAP subsidy have further enhanced the income of farmers.

The BJP leader said that the previous crop insurance scheme was not farmer friendly, the work has been done to make many changes in it. Under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme, if the claim of the insurance company does not pay the farmer within 21 days from the due date, then it will have to pay 12% interest. He said that many times there is a delay in the shares of the state government, some governments have happened, which have said that we will not give shares and do not give it, now we have decided whether the state government gives its share or not, the central government will definitely put its share.
