Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has come into action to recover property tax arrears of Rs 24 crore from PGI. The corporation has ordered the PGI to immediately pay the outstanding taxes. In addition, a strategy has been formulated to address issues such as outstanding water bills, fire safety, waste management and setting up of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at the PGI campus.
Today, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar held a meeting with PGI officials. On this occasion, Chief Fire Officer said that many buildings of PGI are functioning without necessary fire safety system and certificates.
PGI officials said that fire safety audit is being conducted by CBRI, Roorkee and so far inspection of 16 buildings has been completed. The organization assured that they will comply with all the instructions of the fire department within two months.

On October 9-10, 2023, a fire broke out in PGI. No casualties were reported. Meanwhile, the UPS room (100 batteries) was burnt to ashes. Dialysis unit, kidney ward, maternity, newborn ICU, bone marrow transplant unit were affected.
