Taking a major step to improve road safety, Jila Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh of Bhopal has issued a strict instruction – those driving two -wheelers without helmets will no longer be allowed to buy fuel at any petrol pump in the capital of Madhya Pradesh. This order will be applicable to all petrol and CNG pumps of Bhopal district. This decision has been taken in view of the increasing number of road accidents caused by those driving without helmets. The order of the collector states that legal action will be taken against any person, institution or petrol pump operator who violates this rule under Section 223 of the Code of Justice of India (BNS).

According to the order, its main objective is to ensure following traffic rules and reduce road accidents. Fuel pump operators have been clearly warned that if they provide fuel to riders who do not wear ISI-identified helmets, strict action will be taken against them. The order cited Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, according to which it is mandatory to wear protective helmets to each two -wheeler driver and passenger sitting behind.
