Patna University: Students are not interested in studying language, three in Maithili and none in Persian

Students are not taking interest in doing graduation from language subject in Patna University. Despite having teachers and guest faculty in the subject of language, the students are not taking interest in studying the language. There is very less number of students in the language courses run in different colleges of the university. Maithili department of BN College has only three students. At the same time, the Persian department running here is closed for the last 14 years due to lack of teachers. Apart from this, there are only eight students in the Arabic department in Patna College. Apart from this, there is not a single student in the Persian department.

Five students were enrolled in the Persian department in session 2022-23, but due to non-availability of teachers, these students took admission in other departments. Recently a teacher has been appointed in the Persian department. More or less the same is the condition of the students studying language subjects in the PG department of the university as well. 17 students in Arabic department, 34 in Sanskrit, 2 in Persian and 10 in Bengali are pursuing masters.

Patna Women’s College: Not even one took honors in Urdu in first year

Language subjects are taught in two women’s colleges of Patna University. In these, Hindi, English, Sanskrit and Urdu are taught in Patna Women’s College. All the seats have been filled in Hindi and English. At the same time, in the first year in Sanskrit, there are three girl students in the regular course and two in the generic elective. There was no girl student in Urdu in 2019. After the arrival of the teacher, there are total eight girl students in all the three years. This time in the first year, not a single student has taken honors. There is a student in the generic elective.

Magadh Women’s College: No student in first year in Persian

Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit, Persian and Maithili are taught in Magadha Mahila College. Most of the seats are filled in Hindi and English. Whereas, there is no girl student in Persian in first year. There is 1 girl student in second year and 10 girl students in subsidiary. All the seats of Maithili are filled. In the first year, six girl students are studying in Sanskrit and 13 in Urdu. All the departments have guest faculty apart from one lecturer.
