The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has taken action against corruption. The bureau has caught the Panchayat Secretary Gurmel Singh, who was posted in the Block Development and Panchayat Office of Barnala, red handed taking bribe. The Panchayat Secretary had sought a bribe to get the solar bill passed.

According to a Vigilance spokesperson, a contractor lodged a complaint. In 2023, the contractor had installed solar pumps at a cost of Rs 3.84 lakh on the panchayati land of village Fatehgarh Chhanna in Barnala district. The Panchayat Secretary had sought a bribe of 20 thousand rupees for further action of the bills.
Vigilance Bureau caught a trap and caught
After receiving the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap. In the presence of two government witnesses, the Panchayat Secretary was caught taking bribe. A case has been registered against the accused in the Vigilance Bureau Police Station Patiala Range under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused will be produced in court tomorrow.
