The death toll in the building collapse at Virar in Palghar district of Maharashtra has increased to 15, as the rescue team recovered three more bodies on Wednesday and Thursday.He said that this unauthorized four -storey building with about 50 flats fell on a vacant house in Vijay Nagar in Virar area at 12.05 pm on Wednesday night.

According to eyewitnesses, the birthday of a one -year -old girl was being celebrated on the fourth floor, when 12 flats collapsed in one part of the building, causing the people and guests living in the flat to be buried in the debris.

District Magistrate of Palghar Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar confirmed that the death toll in this incident has increased to 15. He said that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other rescue teams will continue to remove debris to ensure that no other person is stuck in the debris.

According to NDRF Deputy Commander Pramod Singh, “Two NDRF teams reached the accident site – one from Mumbai and one from Palghar. As soon as the information was received at 12 o’clock at night, the nearest team immediately took action.”
Emergency services including the NDRF teams as well as the fire department and the local police are actively employed. Authorities have installed barricades to control the crowd and are assessing the structural integrity of nearby buildings. As a precaution, many residents living in nearby buildings have been temporarily expelled.
The rescued people are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Virar and Nalasopara, some of which are in critical condition. Officials continue their discovery to ensure that no one is trapped and the reasons for the building collapse are further investigated.
