New Delhi. Recently, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a post on the social media platform X, in which he accused India of alleged invasion and human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. Shahbaz wrote in his post that every year October 27 is the darkest day in the history of Kashmir and on this day 78 years ago, the Indian Army reached Srinagar and captured the area. He also claimed that since then the local people have suffered immense hardships and oppression.
As per the current information, X Community Notes fact checked this post and termed it as misleading. The community notes clarified that Maharaja Hari Singh had given his consent to accede to India on 26 October 1947 and thereafter India sent troops to Srinagar on 27 October 1947 to defend the area. Along with this, the notes also cited the document in which Maharaja Hari Singh’s approval for the merger of Jammu and Kashmir with India is clearly recorded.
Let us tell you that this incident has come to light in the background of long-running historical and political differences between Pakistan and India. It is noteworthy that fact-checking is now playing an important role on social media platforms to prevent the spread of false and misleading information.
