Pakistan High Commission visa desk became espionage base, Haryana’s arrest opened ISI conspiracy!

The arrest of Wasim Akram, a civil engineer from Haryana, has revealed another case of misuse of the visa desk of Pakistan High Commission for corruption and espionage. Akram, a resident of Palwal in Haryana, was arrested on Tuesday under various sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and the official secrecy Act (OSA). According to sources, he allegedly worked as a data supplier for Pakistan High Commission official Zafar alias Muzammil Hussain. In Kasur, he met an officer of the High Commission while applying for a visa to meet his relatives in Kasur. The visa application was initially rejected, but later the visa was approved after the civil engineer paid a bribe of ₹ 20,000. Investigators said that after this Akram went to Kasur in May 2022.

Pakistan High Commission official Zafar remained in touch with Akram through WhatsApp even after allegedly returned from Pakistan. Akram, a resident of Palwal, provided his bank account for the visa facility funds by promising commission. About ₹ 5 lakhs were allegedly transferred to Akram’s account, and more cash was paid through middlemen. He allegedly gave ₹ 2.3 lakh to the High Commission officer, including ₹ 1.5 lakh cash. He also provided a SIM card to the officer.

Akram is also accused of providing OTP and sharing information about Indian Army personnel with his alleged handlers. Officials associated with the case said that Palwal module matches the same pattern in Malecotla and Noah. The Malecotla case was busted earlier this year after Operation Sindoor, in which another Pakistani officer named Danish alias Ehsan Ur Rahim allegedly used him for espionage by promising to get a visa to the local people. It is alleged that those who allegedly recruited used to get small UPI transfer in exchange for sensitive defense information.
