Pakistan and Nepal more happy than India: Finland world’s happiest country in the World Happiness Index, Afghanistan at the bottom

Finland is the happiest country in the world. In this case, Finland has retained the number-1 ranking in the eighth consecutive year. Welbeing Research Center, Oxford University released the World Happiness Index 2025 on World Happiness Day, March 20.

Finland as the most happy country is ranked first with 7.7 points. In addition to Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden Tops remain in four. All these Nordic countries are also called.

In this list of 147 countries, India has been ranked 118th this time with 4.3 points. The last time India was ranked 126th in the list. India is also behind in this matter, Pakistan and Nepal.

India’s situation improves in Happiness Index

India has come up eight places in the Happiness Index as compared to last year. However, Pakistan is above India. Pakistan is ranked 109th in the Happiness List of 2025. At the same time, Nepal was also above India, it is ranked 92nd.

While Sri Lanka (133) and Bangladesh (134) are behind India. The ranking of these countries was based on the answers that people gave when asked to rate their lives. This study was done by the study analytics firm Gallup and UN Sustainable Development Solution Network.

In this list, countries like Ukraine, Mozambique, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Palestine, Congo, Uganda, Gambia and Venezuela are better than India even after being surrounded by the ranking war, political and economic issues.

India managed to make it to the top-100 in 2022 in recent years. There are many reasons for India’s shortage in the Happiness Index. These include inequality, lack of social support, corruption and lack of generosity, which push India back into the list of happy countries.

Galp’s CEO John Clifton said, “Happiness is not just related to money or development. This belief, connection and knowing that people will always support you. If we want a strong society and economy, we should invest in what really means, that is, in each other.”

In the ranking of happy people, the US has reached the lowest position so far. The top 20 in the ranking dominates European countries.

Despite the war with Hamas, Israel is in eighth place. Costa Rica and Mexico first joined the top 10 of happy countries, in sixth and 10th position respectively.

The US has reached its lowest number 24 in this ranking. Earlier in 2012 he was ranked 11th.

How to become a Happiness Index

There are many parameters to decide the prosperity of a country. During this time, not only economic development is seen, but mutual trust, social engagement, health, freedom are also seen. People are also questioned about their lives while preparing the report. Happiness index is prepared based on the answer. In this survey, the population of the sample size i.e. the country also plays an important role. Actually, Pakistan’s population is a little more than Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest population. At the same time, India is the most populous country in the world. In such a situation, there was a big difference in the sample size of both countries.
