The Karnataka Police has started investigating the death of Dr. Subbanna Ayyappan, who was awarded the Padma Shri Award, under suspicious circumstances. He was found dead in the Kaveri River near Srirangapatna on Saturday. 70-year-old Ayyappan was an agriculture and fisheries scientist and was the first non-crop scientist to lead the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICMR).

On Sunday, the Karnataka police said that the police recovered their body after receiving information about a dead body floating in the river. Their two -wheelers were found on the banks of the river and suspect that Ayyappan would have jumped into the river.

However, the police say that the exact cause of his death can be confirmed only after a thorough investigation. Subbanna’s body has been sent for postmortem and is waiting for.

Was missing since May 7

Ayyappan was a resident of Mysore. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. The family members said that Ayyappan was missing from May 7, on 8 May, a missing report was filed at Vidyaranyapuram police station in Mysore. He often meditated at the Saibaba Ashram located on the banks of the Kaveri River in Srirangapatna.
