The Mohali court has taken a major action in the case of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s viral fake video. The court has ordered Facebook to remove objectionable posts within 24 hours. The court directed Facebook to immediately remove and block such objectionable posts on receiving information from the Cybercrime Department.
The court also ordered Google to prevent such content from appearing in search results. If Facebook and Google do not block the videos, they may face legal action. Earlier, the Punjab Police had issued notices to Facebook and Instagram to remove the posts.
According to reports, as soon as the videos on Jagman Samra’s account tarnishing the Chief Minister’s image started appearing, the State Cyber Cell first tracked it down. The matter was immediately brought to the notice of senior officials. A case has been registered at the State Cyber Crime Police Station in Mohali against the person who uploaded the fake video of Punjab Chief Minister. The accused has been identified as Jagman Samra.

A preliminary investigation into the matter has also revealed that the content appears to be AI-generated, which could exacerbate its impact. A case has been registered under sections 340 (2), 353 (1), 352 (2), 351 (2), 336 (4), and 67 of the Indian Penal Code.
