China, Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to expand the China-Pakistan economic corridor to Afghanistan during an informal tripartite meeting in Beijing. Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister Ishaq Dar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Aamir Khan Mutki discussed diplomatic activities and measures to promote trade, infrastructure and development in their respective countries. To showcase their commitment to development initiatives, the two countries agreed to increase cooperation on Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and expand the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan.

In a post on X after the meeting, Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan, China and Afghanistan are standing together for regional peace, stability and development. Dar is on a three -day Beijing visit, which is his first high -level conversation after the tension with India increases. In a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, he announced that a meeting of the sixth trilateral foreign ministers will be held soon, a mutually convenient date. The Ministry of External Affairs also said that the visit has confirmed their strong friendship and carried forward their shared view for international and regional peace and development.

India objected to the expansion in a third country of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). According to the ANI report, the Ministry of External Affairs said last year that the Chinese-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects will violate India’s territory in Jammu and Kashmir. China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which is a part of China’s ‘Belt and Road Initiative’, aims to renew trade routes in coastal countries of South-East Asia.
