In the 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) i.e. IPL 2022, the old eight teams will be allowed to retain their old four players. This means that the old eight teams will be able to retain four players from last season.
According to this, there can be three Indian and one foreign player, or two Indian and two foreign players. In addition, the rest of the players will have to be sent to the auction pool. However, the two new teams Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be able to select three players from the remaining player pool before the auction. This is stated in a report. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce the official date for the auction of IPL 2022, but according to reports, the auction will take place in December. According to a cricket website, IPL officials have clarified the rules in informal talks with all franchises this week. Also, no team will get RTM (Right to Match) facility in this year’s auction. This is the first time this rule has been removed.
The wallet is expected to fetch Rs 90 crore for the IPL 2022 auction. In the 2021 auction, it was Rs 85 crore. At the same time, in the 2018 mega auction, the teams had Rs 80 crore, out of which they could spend a maximum of Rs 33 crore on retained players. Teams were allowed to buy back five players through a combination of retention and two right-to-match (RTM) cards. But now this rule has been abolished. The report further states that there will be no RTM card next year.
