A 20 -year -old college student from Odisha, who set herself on fire after an alleged sexual harassment by a professor of his college, died in AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.Integrated B.Ed. of Balasore’s Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College. The girl was burnt up to 95% and struggled to save her life for three days, but to no avail.In a major development in the Balasore FM College student self -immolation case, the Crime Branch on Tuesday filed a 349 -page charge sheet in the SDJM court of Balasore.The charge sheet includes statements of 120 witnesses and filed against the four accused, all currently in judicial custody.
Charge sheet filed in Balasore’s self -immolation case
The crime branch of Odisha Police has filed a charge sheet against the accused in the case of self -immolation of a 20 -year -old student of Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College, Balasore. A senior official said that Iman Kalyani Nayak, the investigating officer of the state police and the investigating officer of the child crime branch, on Tuesday filed a 504-page charge sheet in the court of Deputy Mandal Judicial Magistrate of Balasore with statements of 120 witnesses.

The police have collected important clues including digital evidence from various equipment. The official said, “Given more evidence collecting and involvement of many people, the police have not stopped investigating the case yet.” Integrated B.Ed. On July 12, the course student committed suicide by demanding justice against alleged sexual harassment. The department chief was accused of sexual harassment.
The student died during treatment on July 14 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar, after which outrage spread across the country. Police arrested Assistant Professor Sameer Kumar Sahu on July 12 and the then Principal Dilip Ghosh on 14 July for abetment to suicide. After the death of the student, the crime branch took the investigation into his hand.

On August 3, the Crime Branch arrested the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) state joint secretary Shubhra Sambit Nayak and a college student Jyotiprakash Biswal. Both of them were injured during an attempt to save the student, but they have also been accused of abetting suicide. When the student set herself on fire, both of them were recording videos. Both of them are also accused of abetting the student for self -immolation and plotting. The officer said that the investigation of the case is still going on.
