The state government is giving priority to soil health management through its agricultural road map. Due to which there has been a decrease in consumption per hectare of fertilizers. While this consumption was 207.60 kg per hectare in the year 2020-21, it is estimated to be reduced to 172.57 kg per hectare in 2024-25. Earlier in 2023-24 it was 195.68 kg per hectare. Statistics show that farmers of Bihar are now using chemical fertilizers in their fields wisely. The impact of the awareness campaign run by the government is now visible in Bihar. Now farmers have understood that the use of fertilizers unnecessarily in the fields damages soil health.

In such a situation, agricultural experts believe that the use of fertilizers and soil health management will not only increase the productivity of the agricultural sector in Bihar, but will also promote environmental protection and sustainable farming.
Farmers using NPK in scientific proportion
Emphasis is being laid on balanced use of fertilizers to promote integrated nutrient management by the government in the state. Chemical fertilizers with organic and biological sources are being encouraged in the scientific ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potash (NPK) (4: 2: 1) to increase productivity per hectare of crops. The state government has implemented a comprehensive soil testing program to ensure balanced fertilizer use. Soil testing facility has now been available in all the districts of the state.

Farmers’ income and quality of crops are getting better
The goal of the Bihar government is to increase the use of fertilizers as per scientific recommendations and revolutionize the agricultural sector, so that the income of farmers and the quality of crops can be improved. Success is also seen in this direction. Scientists believe that with the use of organic and biological sources, the goal of production can be achieved only by managing proper nutrients. A balanced behavior of fertilizers is necessary to increase the productivity per hectare of the crop. The decrease in consumption of chemical fertilizers per hectare in Bihar arouses hopes about the future that Bihar is moving rapidly towards environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture.
