Preparations for panchayat elections in Punjab have intensified. The Election Commission has officially announced the elections of Zilla Parishad and Panchayati Samiti. Elections for 195 seats in 24 zones and 10 block panchayat committees of the Zilla Parishad will be held in Amritsar on December 14.
All elections will be conducted with ballot paper and 50 percent of the total seats will be reserved for women. Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Dalwinderjit Singh said that the nomination process will start today from 11 am to 3 pm. The last date for nomination is 4th December, scrutiny is 5th December and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is 6th December inclusive till 3 pm.
According to the District Election Officer, candidates can submit nominations themselves or through official proposal. The administration has already started preparations for deployment of police force, polling staff, training and material management. All officials have been instructed to remain alert and coordinate with each other. Voting will be held on December 14 from 8 am to 4 pm.
