The Committee said that Venezuela’s authoritarian regime makes political work extremely difficult. As the founder of Sumate, an organization dedicated to democratic development, Ms. Machado stood up for free and fair elections more than 20 years ago. Machado has united his country’s opposition. She has never shied away from opposing the militarization of Venezuelan society. She has been steadfast in her support of a peaceful transition to democracy. Trump missed out on the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.
