The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session is coming close in New York in late September, but the Government of India has not yet decided whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join it or not. Despite being the name of Prime Minister Modi in the provisional list of speakers to be held on 26 September, the officials say that the final decision is yet to be taken and will be taken only when the program comes close to the date of the program. The list of heads of state or heads of state is generally already decided in the UN initial program, and Modi will address a high-level session with leaders from Israel, China, Pakistan and Bangladesh. However, experts and government sources say such lists change, and sometimes changes can be made in the presence of leaders due to diplomatic or program related reasons.

The speculation has intensified about Prime Minister Modi’s involvement amid reports of possible meetings, including Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelanski, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. In addition, the ongoing trade tension and tariff disputes between India and the US have made the diplomatic atmosphere more complicated. Despite the earlier bilateral negotiations, the US tariff has recently increased tension in relations on Indian imports, making Modi’s visit to America and United Nations General Assembly uncertain.
