Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the nation, in which he announced the upcoming Next-generation GST reforms, which will come into effect from Monday 22 September. The Prime Minister named this important step as ‘GST Savings Utsav’ and described it as a big step towards the self -sufficient Bharat Abhiyan.
PM launched ‘GST Savings Festival’
With the onset of Navratri, these new GST reforms are being implemented. PM Modi said that this festival will be beneficial for every section of the country including the poor, middle class, youth and traders. He said that these reforms will increase the savings of people and they will be able to buy things of their choice easily, which will bring happiness on everyone’s faces in the festive season. He congratulated all the countrymen for these reforms and expressed confidence that these reforms will speed up India’s economic progress, make business easier and make every state a similar partner in the race for development.

PM described GST as a continuous improvement process
The Prime Minister recalled the original GST reforms which came into force in 2017, which freed the country from the complex tax trap that had been going on for decades. He said that after coming to power in 2014, his government gave priority to GST by discussing with all stakeholders and states, which made it possible for this historic tax improvement. The PM said that reform is a continuous process, and in view of the current and future needs, Next-generation GST reforms are being introduced. Under these new reforms, only two major rates of GST will apply 5% and 18%, making everyday essential commodities more inexpensive.
PM insisted on self -sufficiency and indigenous
In his address, the Prime Minister once again emphasized the mantra of ‘self -sufficient India’. He said that just as the freedom struggle got strength from the mantra of ‘Swadeshi’, similarly the prosperity of the country will also get strength from Swadeshi. He appealed to the people to buy products which are ‘Made in India’, which have the hard work of the youth of the country. He said that every house and every shop should be a symbol of Swadeshi. The PM also stated that MSMEs have an important role in making India self -sufficient.
