As soon as the monsoon departs, the pollution level in Delhi is once again seen to be the same familiar increase. The capital of the world’s worst air quality in winter months is now entering a period when stable winds, burning stubble in neighboring states and bursting firecrackers on festivals together are bringing pollution to dangerous levels. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 126 on Tuesday, which holds it in the middle category. However, some hotspots were worse. AQI 284 was recorded at Anand Vihar, while 231 in Jahangirpuri, both fall into the poor category. Anand Vihar, especially, has been one of the most polluted areas in the capital. Residents say that they are already feeling its effect. Ramesh Gupta, a shopkeeper in the area, said that every year, this is the first place where it becomes difficult to breathe. Masks in shops are over and people avoid getting out after dark.
