In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the administration has announced a temporary ban on the sale of meat, fish and eggs during Navratri. The ban will be applicable from 22 September to 2 October. According to the news agency ANI, Bhopal’s subdivisional magistrate Divya Patel said, “Navratri will start from 22 September. In view of this, the sale of meat, fish and eggs has been banned in the city from September 22 to October 2. Meanwhile, in the meantime, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Gurugram has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and demanded that all the meat shops have been closed during Navratri. Shops near institutions and residential areas hurt the sentiments of the devotees and the citizens are inconvenienced.

It further alleges that many shops violate food safety standards and hygiene norms, which threatens public health. VHP district president Surendra Tanwar said that the administration has been urged to ban “religious and public sentiments” and ban the sale of meat and fish, as well as to ensure adherence to sanitation standards.
