Nature’s havoc again in Jammu and Kashmir, 7 killed due to cloudburst in Kathua, rescue operation continues

After Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir, now Kathua district has also seen a havoc of nature. A cloudburst in a remote village killed at least seven people and injured six people. The incident occurred on the night of Saturday and Sunday. Earlier, more than 60 people have lost their lives in a similar incident in Kishtwar.
According to officials, due to cloudburst, many houses in the village were buried in debris and flood water. Due to this tragedy, the roads reaching the village have also been closed, due to which the rescue work is facing difficulties. However, a joint team of police and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) has reached the spot and the rescue operation is on.
Rescue and relief work continues
Officials said that the incident has also been damaged on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway. Landslides have also occurred in the villages under Kathua police station, but there is no news of any major damage there. Due to heavy rains, the water level of most of the reservoirs of this region is increasing rapidly. The Ujh river is also flowing close to the danger mark. The district administration has appealed to the people to stay away from the reservoirs for their safety.

Leaders expressed grief
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep grief over the incident. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured all possible help to the affected people, wishing the injured to recover soon.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has also expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He wrote on the social media platform X, ‘The devastating landslides caused by rain in many areas of Kathua have suffered deeply due to the death of people. This tragedy is shocking the mind. ‘ He also informed that he is in constant touch with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and is giving information about rescue and relief work. Teams of Army, NDRF, SDRF and police are working together. Senior officials have also been instructed to ensure coordination and assistance in the affected areas.
