Emerging female shooter and National Shooting Champion Konica Laik has committed suicide. She was a resident of Dhanbad, Jharkhand. She was currently staying in a hostel in Kolkata.
According to reports, Konika committed suicide by hanging herself in the hostel. Konica is the fourth shooter to commit suicide in the last four months. Khush Sirat Kaur, a 17-year-old shooter from Punjab, had also committed suicide a few days back. He shot himself in the head with his pistol. Khush Sirat had participated in the Junior World Cup for India. He was preceded in October by Hunardeep Singh Sohal of Punjab and in September by Namanveer Singh Brar of Mohali.
Konika had won four gold and silver medals at the Jharkhand state level. He was the state champion in the 10m air rifle category. A few months ago, Konika made headlines when she asked actor Sonu Sood for help with a rifle. Sonu Sood then gave him a rifle as a gift. Earlier, she used to practice with the rifle of her coach Rajinder Singh and friends. Konica was selected in the national team at the time but did not have her own rifle. Due to this she could not participate in the tournament. Then he asked Sonu Sood for help. Sonu had on March 24 sent him a German rifle worth Rs 2.70 lakh. After this Konika Like tweeted and thanked Sonu Sood.
