G., owner of Sresan Pharmaceuticals, a pharmaceutical company in Tamil Nadu. Ranganathan has been arrested from Chennai. This arrest has been made in the case of death of 21 children due to cough medicine ‘Coldrif’ in Madhya Pradesh. Investigation found that the syrup contained dangerous amounts of a highly toxic chemical called diethylene glycol (DEG), which damaged the children’s kidneys and took their lives.
This whole matter started from Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh, where many children died after their health deteriorated. Later, similar cases were reported in Betul and Pandhurna, taking the death toll to 21.Condition of 5 still critical Is.
Yes. Ranganathan was absconding after this incident came to light. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Madhya Pradesh Police arrested him at midnight with the help of Chennai Police. According to police sources,SIT has Chenew police Tracked bank transactions and vehicle movements in collaboration with and around 1:30 am Caught Ranganathan.
During the raid, the police seized many important documents, medicine samples and production records from the factory. The factory is located in Kanchipuram district and was caught violating norms several times in the last few years. Investigation has also revealed that the company’s license was already in the process of being cancelled, but despite this the production was continuing.
According to ICMR and state health department reports, 48.6 percent diethylene glycol was found in Coldrif syrup, which is extremely dangerous for the human body and is not allowed in the medicine. This chemical became the main cause of death of children.
There has been a stir in the entire country after the incident. The central and state governments have issued a warning to all states advising them to avoid giving any kind of cough syrup to children below four years of age. Testing of Sresan Pharmaceuticals products has been started across the country.
This matter has also become heated at the political level. Calling the incident “a result of administrative negligence”, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh said that now is the time to bring comprehensive reforms in the system so that such tragedies do not happen again in future.
Here, a PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court, in which a demand has been made to conduct a CBI investigation into this entire incident under judicial supervision. The court will hear this soon.
