Cancer cases are increasing rapidly in India. Among them, breast, lung and colon cancers are the most common. Worryingly, a large number of people below the age of 40 are now falling prey to this disease. According to a recent Cancer Free India report, 60% of cancer cases in the country are found in men and 40% in women.
What are the main reasons for the increase in cancer, let’s know
1. Changing lifestyle
In today’s fast paced life, people do not eat properly and on time. Consumption of junk food and processed food has increased, leading to problems like obesity, high blood pressure and cholesterol. These conditions increase inflammation and cell damage in the body, which increases the risk of cancer.
2. Irregular routine and less physical activity
Working for hours in front of screens in corporate offices has reduced physical activity. Exercise, yoga and lack of adequate sleep – all these factors slow down the metabolism and weaken the immune system. This increases the risk of breast, colon and pancreatic cancer.
3. Increasing pollution
In many Indian cities, especially in places like Delhi, high levels of air and water pollution are becoming a major cause of the disease. Carcinogens (cancer-causing substances) present in these pollutants enter the body and damage cells. Long-term effects can lead to diseases like cancer. Our lifestyle, eating habits and environment are playing a major role in the increasing incidence of cancer. To prevent this, a balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep and protection from pollution are essential. Periodic health check-up is also important so that the disease can be detected in its early stages.
