Mizoram going to connect with rail network, PM Modi will inaugurate the Barbi-Gaug line on 13 September

As part of a historical step, Mizoram will soon witness the introduction of rail services for the first time after independence. Chief Minister Lalduhoma has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Barabi-Sarrang railway line on 13 September, which will be an important achievement for the state. With this inauguration, Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, will finally make its place on India’s railway map. Sararang station is located near the capital Aizawl.

Rail services including Rajdhani Express

During an event in Aizawl on Friday, the Chief Minister confirmed that Prime Minister Modi would reach Aizawl on 12 September and would rest the night. On September 13, Modi will inaugurate the new railway line. Lalduhoma further said that he has discussed the Prime Minister’s visit with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. He also revealed a plan to make Sairang station a world -class facility center, from where services like Rajdhani Express will be run.

Connect to Eisoll-Sildar

According to officials, the 51.38 km long railway line is part of the Central Government’s “Act East” policy, which aims to increase connectivity and economic integration in the Northeast region. This new rail line will connect Aizawl to Silchar in Assam and by its detail, Mizoram will connect Mizoram to the rest of the country through the National Rail Network. The project is considered a notable engineering achievement, including 12.8 km long 48 tunnels, 55 large bridges and 87 small bridges. The highest bridge, which is 196, is 104 meters high, which is even higher than the height of Qutub Minar.

IRCTC and Mizoram government cooperation

To promote tourism, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Mizoram. The purpose of this agreement, which was earlier this month, is to promote tourism in the state. Under the agreement, IRCTC will serve as a marketing agency, while the Mizoram government will provide access to the infrastructure of tourism including Mizoram Tourism Lodge. Both sides will cooperate on developing “curated travel packages” with the aim of attracting tourists in the area.
