Mithila’s daughter Maithili Thakur joined BJP, said – I am not a leader, I have come to do social service.

Giving a big boost to the party ahead of Bihar Assembly elections, folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal in Patna on Tuesday. According to sources, Thakur is likely to contest the upcoming state assembly elections from Alinagar in Darbhanga. Voting for the 243-seat Bihar Assembly will be held on November 6 and November 11, while counting of votes will take place on November 14.

Speaking on the occasion, Bihar BJP President Jaiswal expressed confidence in the NDA’s victory and said that the voters have made up their mind to form the NDA government with an overwhelming majority. He also hit out at the opposition Grand Alliance, saying they were “disappointed and sad” and claimed that more than half a dozen of their MLAs would soon join the BJP. Singer Maithili Thakur said that I am very impressed by the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar. Taking inspiration from them, I am here to support them.
Maithili Thakur said that I do not believe that joining a political party makes you a politician; I am here to serve the society and spread their ideology to every person… I am the daughter of Mithila, my soul resides in Mithila… The party will know what they have in mind for me; I’m just here to support them. I will do whatever the party orders.

Who is Maithili Thakur?

The Election Commission has appointed Maithili Thakur as the ‘State Icon’ of Bihar, which shows her influence and popularity. His recognition underlines his role as a cultural ambassador for the state. Trained in Indian classical and folk music, Thakur was awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2021 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi for his contribution to the folk music of Bihar.

Born in Madhubani district of Bihar, Maithili and her two brothers were trained in folk, Hindustani classical music, harmonium and tabla playing by their grandfather and father. He has presented traditional folk songs of Bihar in Maithili, Bhojpuri and Hindi.
