The Chittoor Taluk police of Andhra Pradesh have registered a case under the Protection of Children (POCSO) from sexual offenses (POCSO) and Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against three people on charges of raping a minor girl in Murakambattu area of Chittoor city. Police said the incident took place on September 25 at Nagarvanam Park, where some people attacked a young couple, assaulted them and looted their precious items. The youth lodged a complaint at Chittoor Taluk police station on 29 September. During interrogation, he revealed that the accused threatened him and also raped the girl present with him.

Subsequently, the police interacted with the victim and her parents, counseling her and took the girl to the One Stop Center of Chittoor Government Hospital, where a female officer recorded her statement according to the law. Based on his statement, a case was registered under the Related Sections of the Code of Justice of India (BNS), Poxo Act and SC/ST (POA) Amendment Act. The accused have been identified as Mahesh, a resident of Murakambattu and Kishore and Hemant Prasad, a resident of Santapeta. Special teams have been formed under the supervision of Chittoor Sub-Division DSP T. Sainath to catch the absconding accused.

Chittoor district Superintendent of Police Tushar Doody, IPS said that investigation is being done with full strictness and transparency. He warned against spreading rumors or revealing the identity of the victim and said that such acts are punishable under the Poxo Act. The police also appealed to the public to cooperate in the investigation and not spread false information.
