How did you come in ‘Khaki …’ and what are the preparations?
I liked the story of “Khaki: The Bengal Chapter”. I have also seen its first part. This is an interesting and exciting story. I saw a lot of positivity in my character. Also I wanted to work with director Neeraj Pandey. I myself messaged them. His reply came within about a month. He said that I am not directing the series. I am a bus runner.
Working on OTT was a new experience for me. It was a lot of fun working on OTT. Here artists get a lot of opportunities to show their talent. It is expected that the audience will like ‘Khaki: The Bengal Chapter’. This is a great series, in which all artists have done a great job. The series has a balance of politics, crime and emotion.
Chitraganda is playing the role of a politician for the first time.
Your look in the series looks very simple. Did you take any reference?
The emotional graph of my character was such that I felt that there would be a chance to perform in it. This is not that glamorous role. The reference was very clear of the makers. At the writing level, all were duly duly details. My character is that of a politician. Which is educated and active in politics from college.
It is not that there is a very rural political leader. In such a situation, we had to show a dignified presence for this character. There is also a grace in my character. He is not like a typical leader. I did not keep this character as if she is screaming a lot or shouting slogans. Yes, it must be kept that his control will be performed. More important than this was how his emotional life is going on.
When such strong characters are found to play, what input do they keep on their behalf that the character becomes big?
Each character has an energy and aura. I think that he has to decide a body language by keeping it in mind. You have to see how to sit, how to talk to someone. Everything that is in the routine or habit of the character has to be brought inside. It has a scene when my character goes to meet her love. That is a place where it breaks.
Now no matter what happens outside, there is some such link in every person’s life, which can weaken him. And when you leave that weak link, then you can fight more. So this is the journey of my character. I found it very interesting. It is not that if my character belongs to a woman, she will win, fight the most. It was not written in this way.
What is the improvision on the on set?
Absolutely, improvision occurs. There was a scene when my character comes to the hospital to meet her love. Doctors say that if they cannot keep them on life support for a long time, then she takes the decision. He was my favorite scene. At that time there were no dialogues in the scene. He had to play by himself.
However, it was written much earlier, then we cut some lines. I do not even think that someone speaks so much in so much sorrow. That too in a room where another person cannot talk to you, neither can hear you. So some of these things were definitely changed. I feel very interesting that the theme is such that it is more heavier than your emotion, your words, heavier than talent.
How was the work experience with Neeraj Pandey? Have you been approached for further?
If the media tells them this, then it is good when you are taking Chitrangada back to your project. Neeraj ji has liked my work. He has spoken to me himself. Neeraj ji gives artists a chance to work again. Now I see when they offer me another project.
You have been in the industry for a long time. Then why is the film lineup so low?
It is true that my film lineup is less. I agree to a project only after much deliberation. Meaning I want to work with good film makers. When you only choose a good offer, there is a break or gap somewhere. Then I have also taken a break in the middle. After 2005, there was a 7 -year gap.
In 2005, Chitraganda made his debut with ‘Thousand Khwish Aisi’.
I was not in the industry, then started working back in 2010. So this has been happening in between. I have also given priority to personal life. I have also left a lot of work. Because of that too, people forget many times. In such a situation, again you have to re-call yourself in the mind of the makers. However, I am happy with all the work I have done. It is not that people forgot absolutely.
Recently there were reports that you refused Babumoshay gunner due to Nawazuddin?
She was a fake news. There is nothing like this among us. Now we have worked together in ‘Raat Akeleni 2’. At that time there were some situations that could not work together. I wanted to work with him for a long time. Now when she has worked together, she enjoyed working with them very much. I had a good rhythm with them, the energy match was held. Our film has just been completed. Honey Trehan, who is the director, enjoyed working with him. I am lucky to work with a director like Honey.
You were also going to produce a biopic. Will you share something on it?
There is some paper work going on on it, due to which there is a little brake. It is our endeavor to move forward by solving the problem coming in it. He is a very interesting story. I am very excited about him but things are currently stalled. We will announce as soon as things are final.
You once said that people compare you to Smita Patil. So there was never any offer?
At the moment there is no offer. I had said just because I go anywhere, people compare me because of my looks. I see their reflection in me. I would definitely like to do a biopic on them. She was a very amazing actress. She was far ahead of her time.
Are you doing any woman central project or any offer from another industry?
Talk is going on in one place. Let’s see how long he is final. It seems to me that now the audience also wants me to appear in any such project. Perhaps he becomes the turning point of my career. I want to try to work in another industry. Now all PAN India films are being made, so films are reaching more audiences.

What is the difference between OTT and Films? On whom do they enjoy more during work?
I think writing inside the long format should be very good. The OTT is quite challenging. Here is a long time to tell the story. There are songs in films, there are also slow motion action scenes, but pure content is going on here. Here are different types of stories. Some things are right for OTT and some are right for theaters. There is no limit on the OTT and you cannot use any gimix. You cannot use songs, dance items songs.
