Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (Subhaspa) on Monday said that this is his seat and will contest the by -election for it after his MLA Abbas Ansari was sentenced to two years imprisonment in a provocative speech for his MLA Abbas Ansari from Mau seat in Uttar Pradesh.
Subhaspa chief Om Prakash Rajbhar while talking to reporters on Monday said, “That seat is ours …. our party (by -election) will contest on it.” Abbas Ansari became MLA for the first time by winning elections from Mau Sadar assembly seat on Subhaspa ticket under the Samajwadi Party alliance in the 2022 assembly elections.
The seat has now been declared vacant after the court disqualified the assembly membership for 2 years imprisonment by the court for giving hate India speech.
Under the Public Representation of Representation Act, if the court pronounces a member of two years or more, there is a provision to abolish the membership of his assembly. Subhaspa is currently an ally of the ruling BJP -led coalition government and party president Raja is a cabinet minister in the state.
When asked about the next step of the party about Ansari, Rajbhar said, if he goes to court, the party is with him. Currently there are holidays in the High Court and will remain closed for a month.
After the disqualification of Abbas Ansari, there will be five MLAs of Subhaspa in the 403 -member Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Regarding the election of District Panchayat President and Block Chief with the direct votes of the people, Rajbhar said that he has met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Home Minister Amit Shah in this regard.
He said, a proposal is being prepared to hold elections directly from the public to avoid the use of money and muscle power for elections on these posts. Currently, the District Panchayat President is elected by the members of the District Panchayat. Similarly, block members choose their block chief. These elections are accused of using money and muscle power.
