An additional SP was killed and at least two policemen were seriously injured in a large pressure IED blast by Maoists targeting security forces on Monday morning in Sukma district of Bastar, Chhattisgarh. According to police sources, ASP Giripanje was on foot patrol duty as part of a pre-security campaign before the Bharat Bandh called by CPI (Maoist) on June 10. The purpose of patrolling was to thwart any possible Maoist disruption in the highly sensitive area. During the operation, a pressure-active improvised explosive device (IED) exploded, resulting in ASP Giripanje seriously injured and damaged many other officers and security personnel present with them. Immediate assistance was provided at the scene and the injured were taken to Konta Hospital for treatment.

Giripunje, other officers and jawans were injured in the incident. Officials said that all the injured are being treated at Konta Hospital. The condition of Additional Superintendent of Police Giripunje among the injured is said to be serious and critical. Other injured are out of danger. He informed that Additional Superintendent of Police is being sent to a higher medical center for better treatment.
