Violence continues in Manipur for 23 months. President’s rule was imposed here on 13 February 2025.
On March 21, a delegation of judges of the Supreme Court reached Manipur on a tour.
15 days have passed since the Supreme Court judges returned from Manipur, but the lives of more than 50 thousand displaced living in relief camps are still the same.
The team met the displaced of ethnic violence and visited relief camps. Justice Kotishwar Singh had said that Manipur was prosperous.
The delegation included Justice BR Gawai, Justice Suryakant, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice MM Sundaresh, Justice KV Vishwanathan and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh.

Justice BR Gawai was leading the judge delegation. Virtual opening of temporary medical facilities was also done in Manipur.
Offer a conversation between Metai and Cookie Side for peace
At the time of the tour, Supreme Court Justice BR Gawai had talked about solving all problems in constitutional methods. He had said that the solution is easily found when dialogue occurs.
After this a big change was expected. Now there has been an initiative to find a way of peace between Maetai and Kuki community.
A leader of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (Kokomi), the main organization of the Maitaiyas, said that both sides would have to talk for peace.
Some people of the Thadau Kuki tribe have offered talks. The people of Kokomi will now go to every Maetai’s house in the next week and talk in this regard. The opinion of all people will be the final decision.
However, cookie leaders say that the people of Thadou tribe are sitting in Delhi and offering conversations with Maetaiyas, they will not get the support of the cookie organizations of Manipur.
Explain that Thadau is one of the original tribes of Manipur, which was recognized as independent Scheduled Tribes under the 1956 President of the Government of India.
Thadau is the second largest tribe in Manipur by population. According to the 2011 census, the population of Thadau in Manipur is 2 lakh 15 thousand.
Relief camps are worse, patients are not getting timely treatment
The condition of relief camps is worse amidst violence, patients are dying due to timely treatment.
According to the local, no information has been given to the people living in the camps after the visit of the judges.
About 8 thousand people are living in 50 relief camps of Churachandpur, many of whom are sick. A doctor looking at the patients told that medicines in the government hospital are over. The same situation is with Imphal.

Justice Gawai said- displaced people do not leave us behind
Justice Gawai had said- It is our moral and constitutional responsibility that the displaced people do not leave us. One should get full rights in cases of their identity, documents, property rights or compensation cases.
He had said to provide free legal aid from the legal aid clinic established within the displaced communities. Manipur State Legal Services Authority established 265 legal aid clinics.
Justice Gawai said, ‘I urge all the displaced persons to take advantage of these services. I assure them that we are standing with them towards reconstruction of their lives. ‘
Justice N. Kotishwar Singh said that we should look forward and think about the future. We should not live in the past, pain. We should look at a bright future. It may take time, but we should expect and remain positive.
Shah said- peace in Manipur for 4 months
On March 3, Union Home Minister Amit Shah proposed to impose President’s rule in Manipur in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, which was approved by both the House.
Shah said in the Lok Sabha- There has been no violence in Manipur for the last four months from December to March. Relief camps have ensured food, medicines and medical facilities.
Actually, violence started in Manipur from May 2023. After the resignation of the then Chief Minister N Biren on 9 February, President’s rule was imposed in Manipur on 13 February.
Under the rule, within 2 months, the government has to take permission for President’s rule from both houses.

Violence erupted in March last month after the announcement of free movement
On March 1, Home Minister Amit Shah held a review meeting in the Ministry of Home Affairs on the situation in Manipur. From March 8, the Home Minister had asked to ensure unruly movement on all roads in Manipur. At the same time, instructions were given to take strict action against those who blocked the roads.
After the order, violence erupted in Cookie and Maetai dominated areas in Manipur. As soon as buses started running on the roads connecting Imphal, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Vishnupur and commander, people of the cookie community started opposing it.
A male protestor was killed and 25 others were injured in a clash between security forces and protesters. The deceased has been identified as Lalgown SingSit (30 years).

The protesters stopped the buses, followed by violence.
