West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday launched the first Rath Yatra to take place from the newly constructed Jagannath Temple in the sea coastal city of Digha. Amid Jai Jagannath’s Jayaghosh, the Chief Minister along with thousands of devotees, including foreigners, in the afternoon, took the ropes of the chariots of Lord Jagannath and his brother Bhagwan Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra along with their cabinet colleagues.
The Chief Minister appealed to the devotees through loudspeakers that they could touch the ropes of the chariots during the 750 meter long rath yatra from the back of the obstructions placed there.
Devotees who attend the grand Rath Yatra originating from the newly constructed temple of Digha have been asked to stand behind the blocks along the road.
