Agartala: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) President Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that despite the attacks on her party leaders, her party will stand with the people of the state. Earlier, the Chief Minister of West Bengal arrived here on a two-day tour of the poll-bound Tripura. Mamata Banerjee was accompanied by her nephew and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Trinamool Congress state president Piyush Kanti Biswas, party MP Sushmita Dev and senior leader Rajib Banerjee received the party chief at the Maharaja Bir Bikram airport here. Speaking to reporters at the airport, Mamata said, “I have come here to say that the Trinamool Congress stood with you (common people) when there was no one amidst the tyranny of the BJP.” Our people were attacked and vehicles were vandalised. Even senior leaders like Kakali Ghosh Dastidar, Dola Sen and Sushmita Dev were not spared.”

Mamata Banerjee said that Tripura is her “second home”. “I have worked with leaders like Santosh Mohan Dev and Manoranjan Bhakt from Tripura when the Congress came back to power (in 1988). I am very familiar with this northeastern state. Mamta said, “The most pleasant thing about this place is that I can speak in my mother tongue. Be it food, dress or taste or lifestyle, the people of Tripura have close ties with West Bengal.”

She said that she is going straight from the airport to the Tripureshwari temple to offer prayers. Meanwhile, sources in the party said that the Trinamool chief will participate in a road show on Tuesday and will pass through all the important roads of the city and will also address a rally.
