Mallikarjun Kharge’s letter to Modi on caste census: Demand to adopt Telangana model in survey, three suggestions

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi.

The central government had announced to conduct caste census on 30 April. In such a situation, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the demand for caste census.

He has also given three suggestions to conduct the survey. In his letter, Kharge criticized the government for not responding to his earlier letters on 16 April 2023.

Kharge said- I did not get any response to that letter. After that, today, you are accepting yourself that this demand is in social interest. Kharge also advised PM Modi to talk to all political parties.

Kharge also referred to the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April. Congress party leader Jairam Ramesh has shared the post on X and supported Kharge’s demand.

Jairam Ramesh said that after the CWC meeting on May 2, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter to Modi.

Mallikarjun Kharge’s three suggestions to Modi

  1. The design of survey questions is important. Kharge demanded to adopt the Telangana model to prepare the questions.
  2. The government urged the government to remove arbitrary 50% reservation limit for SC, ST and OBC. He also asked the laws of other states to be included in the ninth schedule of the Constitution. (The ninth schedule of the Constitution is a list of central and state laws that cannot be challenged in court)
  3. Article 15 (5) of the Constitution was asked to execute, which was introduced on 20 January 2006 to provide reservation for SC, ST and OBC in private educational institutions.

There will be a caste census for the first time after independence in the country

This will be the first caste census in the country after independence. The Union Cabinet approved the caste census on 30 April.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that it will be done with the original census. Opposition parties have been demanding caste census. Caste census can begin in September.

The census may take a year to complete. In such a situation, the final figures of the census will be found in the end of 2026 or in the beginning of 2027.

The last census in the country took place in 2011. It is done every 10 years. The next census was to take place in 2021, but it was postponed due to the Kovid-19 epidemic.

Bihar elections can be affected

Bihar has assembly elections in September-October. Caste census has been a big issue in elections. Bihar is the first state to conduct caste census. The census can be started from September this year.

The impact of this census can be seen on the caste -based vote bank in Bihar. There is a competition to take credit for this decision in RJD and JDU.

CM Nitish has called PM Modi a thank you, while Lalu Yadav has taunted the government.
