The anti-Maoist campaign has been a major success in Bastar division of Chhattisgarh. A total of 21 Maoists from Kuemari/Kiskodo area committee of Keshkal division (North Sub-regional Bureau) have surrendered to join the mainstream. Divisional Committee Secretary Mukesh is also included among these Maoists. These surrendered Maoists have also handed over 18 weapons, including high caliber automatic rifles.
The 21 Maoists who surrendered include 13 women and 8 men. These surrendered Maoists include 4 DVCM, 9 ACM, and 8 other faction members. The activists also deposited a large quantity of weapons with the security forces, totaling 18. These weapons include 3 AK-47 rifles, 4 SLR rifles, 2 INSAS rifles, 6 .303 rifles, 2 single shot rifles and 1 BGL weapon.

Important steps towards peace and development
Bastar IG P. Sundarraj termed this development as a decisive step. IG Sundarraj said, ‘Another decisive step was taken today in Kanker district, when 21 more Maoists voluntarily returned to the mainstream. This is an important milestone in our efforts to curb Left Wing Extremist influence, build community trust and promote peace and development in Bastar.’
He said that the process of rehabilitation and reintegration of these 21 Maoists is underway, which shows the commitment of the police towards a safe, inclusive and progressive society. The IG has urged the remaining Maoist cadres to choose the path of peace and return to the society, otherwise ‘be prepared to face the consequences’.
