Maithili Thakur hails from Benipatti in Madhubani, Bihar. He was also appointed as the ‘State Icon’ of Bihar by the Election Commission. Trained in Indian classical and folk music, he received the Ustad Bismillah Khan Youth Award in 2021 from Sangeet Natak Akademi for his contribution to the folk music of Bihar. Along with his two brothers, he was trained from his grandfather and father to folk and Hindustani classical music, harmonium and tabla.

The Election Commission announced the Bihar assembly election schedule on Monday. For 243 assembly seats, voting will be held on November 6 and November 11 in two phases and counting will be held on 14 November. In the 2015 elections, RJD won 80 seats with 18.8% vote share, while its ally Congress won 27 seats with 6.8% vote share. JDU, who was part of the Grand Alliance at that time, won 71 seats with 17.3% vote share. BJP won 53 seats with 25% vote share, while other parties won 8 seats with 22.5% vote share.
