The State Election Commission will hold a press conference this afternoon, and the dates for the elections to municipalities, city councils, district councils and municipal corporations are expected to be announced in this conference. This development has come at a time when the opposition has demanded postponement of the elections. The opposition alleges that the July 1 voter list contains several irregularities, including fake and duplicate names. In this regard, Shiv Sena (UBT) said it is planning to approach the court with evidence. However, election officials said that once the elections are declared, it would be difficult for the court to intervene.
NCP leader creates stir by announcing probable dates of BMC elections
On November 3, senior NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil created a stir by announcing the tentative dates for the long-awaited local bodies and municipal corporations elections in Maharashtra, while the Election Commission is yet to formally announce the schedule.
Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is part of the BJP-led grand alliance government. He said that the district council elections are likely to be held on December 15, while the municipal corporation elections may be held on January 15.
Valse Patil said that the Supreme Court has set January 31, 2026 as the last date for holding the long-pending local body elections. “As per my knowledge, Zilla Parishad elections can be held on December 15 and municipal body elections can be held on January 15. The entire process of local body and municipal body elections will be completed before January 31,” Walse Patil said in a viral video.

As soon as these elections are announced, the political atmosphere of the state is going to heat up. A few days ago, the opposition had apologized to the State Election Commission regarding the voter list scam. He also met the Election Commission.
