The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday declared Maharashtra Governor and BJP leader CP Radhakrishnan as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the post of Vice President. The decision was taken at the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting, which was called to finalize the party candidate for the Vice Presidential election. BJP National President and Union Minister JP Nadda announced this. Nadda said that we will also talk to the opposition. We should also get their support so that we can all together ensure unopposed elections for the post of Vice President.

Nadda said that as we said earlier, we are in touch with him and our senior leaders have approached him before and we will still be in contact with him and all our NDA colleagues have supported us. CP Radhakrishnan is the Vice Presidential candidate of our NDA. Chandrapuram Ponnuswamy Radhakrishnan was born on 20 October 1957 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. He served as the state president of Tamil Nadu from 2003 to 2006. Radhakrishnan has served in many important positions in his political journey. He took over as the Governor of Maharashtra on 31 July, 2024.
Earlier, he served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 18 February, 2023 to 30 July, 2024. He also took over the additional charge of the Governor of Telangana from March to July 2024 and the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry from March to August 2024. He represented Coimbatore after being elected to the Lok Sabha twice in 1998 and 1999. Within the BJP, he started his political journey with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

As the Tamil Nadu President of BJP, Radhakrishnan began the 93-day chariot journey focused on issues like connecting rivers, dealing with terrorism and abolition of untouchability. In Parliament, he presided over the Standing Committee on Textile and contributed to several committees related to finance and public undertakings. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi tweeted, “We fully support NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan for the post of Vice President. We are standing with NDA from road to Parliament.”
